Not every championship story starts with experience.
Some start with two brothers, a brand-new sport, and a “let’s just try it” kind of attitude.
For Silas and Boaz B, joining the Cowichan Valley High School 10-pin bowling program wasn’t about winning; it was about doing something new. Competing as team ‘Heritage Helix’, they stepped into the season in November 2025 as complete beginners.
No big expectations. No pressure. Just two brothers, a lane, and a lot to figure out.
- Every Frame Counts
When Silas and Boaz joined the program, it was an opportunity to learn a new sport and be part of a local team experience.
They shared how being a part of HCOS gave them the flexibility to participate in sports alongside other students in their community.
And as it turned out, it was a great fit.
From the beginning of the season to the final games, one thing stayed consistent: they showed up. Week after week, they participated, played, and continued building their experience in the sport.
“The key to winning the league was about being consistent and showing up every week.”
That steady commitment became a defining part of their season.
- Rolling Steady
Over the course of the league, from November through February, Silas and Boaz moved from first-time players to league champions. Winning in their rookie season made the achievement all the more memorable.
“It was fun to win in their rookie year.” Their family shared.
At the heart of their experience was something simple but meaningful: the opportunity to try something new.
“Always fun to learn a new sport.” When asked about their bowling experience.
That willingness to step into a new activity opened the door to both the experience and the outcome.
- Back to the Lanes
The season may be over, but their time with bowling isn’t. Silas and Boaz are looking forward to continuing the sport for fun, with Boaz planning to join the league again next year.
Opportunities like this are part of what makes their learning experience unique.
Through home education, Silas and Boaz were able to participate in local programs, explore new interests, and try something they hadn’t before. From first-time bowlers to league champions, Silas and Boaz’s season is a reminder that trying something new can lead to unexpected outcomes.
From their very first roll to their final winning frame, they proved that growth happens one step (or one strike) at a time.
Silas and Boaz, your journey was right on target. We’re so excited to see where you roll next!
