Over 40 HCOS students participated in this year’s Learning Commons STEAM Contest: Design and Build A Marble Run. Students entered in one of three grade categories and used recyclable materials to design and build their own marble runs from scratch. The contest was created to address curricular competencies in Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) by challenging students to engage in the design thinking process.
There were many incredible entries, and the judges scored participants on presentation, complexity, aesthetic, and variety of materials used.
Winners received one of three prizes, a Brio Labyrinth Game, a Perplexus Original, or a $20 Amazon gift card. Here are the contest winners (view their videos via the links):

Thank you to all the students and families who participated in this contest. It was so much fun to see the runs you built and watch the fun you had building them. We know it was a challenge, but you persevered and came up with great results.
We hope you will join us for next year’s STEAM Contest – we’ve already begun dreaming up ideas to challenge your design thinking skills!
