Come Meet the Student Support Center

Hello from the SSC Team!

The Student Support Centre team has already started preparing for the new school year. Woohoo!

We are so excited to see new and old faces and to support families in their journey. Education is a team effort, and through the SSC, we have an opportunity to play a critical role in helping students and parents succeed at home learning.

Here are some important details about our services …

Customized Care

We strive to provide individualized support during our sessions, as we know that all students are unique and have different needs. We also believe that connection is an essential key to learning – which presents itself in our relationship-centred approach.

Our Team

By visiting the SSC website – https://grad.onlineschool.ca/student-support-centre – you can meet our team: Carlee Bouillion, Benjamin Loewen, and Taryn McPherson. As you will see, we are here to help in a wide range of areas.

Booking Process

Our schedules are posted at least two weeks in advance, and students are encouraged to book as needs pop-up or regularly to establish a routine.

Students can book up to two sessions per week with one (or a combination of) SSC team member(s). If this number changes, we will let you know. Sessions vary in length from 20 – 40 minutes.

Ready to make this a great school year?

Here are 5 easy ways to start things off right:

  1. Go in with a positive attitude. – Yes, it’s hard saying goodbye to summer, but before we know it, summer will be back again. Try not to focus on how much you dislike school (or a certain subject), but instead, look for the good and try to have fun! Believe it or not, this shift in thinking will have a massive impact on your year.
  2. Get into a good rhythm – and the sooner the better! – This encompasses many things, including eating and sleeping habits, setting aside time to rejuvenate, showing up to classes prepared, and creating a schedule and daily and weekly plans. Think of it this way: If you’re trying to score a goal, many things need to be in place to make it happen! Check out some schedule samples and templates before you dive in!
  3. Be flexible and willing to try new tactics. – Remember that pair of shoes you loved and fit so well last year and are now sitting in the back of your closet (or have been tossed)? Well, sometimes we need to trade in old strategies for new ones.
  4. Remember that you are part of a team. – If you feel like you’re getting stuck, reach out for help – always!
  5. Celebrate your successes. – Patting yourself on the back when you’ve had a win – big or small – is sometimes the confidence builder you need to keep going, so don’t forget to do it!

Want extra support?

Choose from any of these options …

  • Attend a Back-to-School Open House session – Bring any questions you have about school and the SSC, and we will do our best to answer them. *
  • Book a 1:1 session with an SSC team member – The sooner the better. We are here to answer your questions, point you in the right direction, keep you accountable, dive into your coursework, or help you set up a schedule and plan that works. Just click here.
  • Watch last year’s Grad Week presentations about Creating a Plan for a Successful Year (6th one down) and the Ins & Outs of the Student Support Centre (2nd from the bottom).
  • Attend a Back-to-School: Tips for Success session for a condensed version of the Creating a Plan for a Successful Year. *
  • Check back in periodically to see what the SSC is offering, whether it be mini workshops addressing tough topics that so many students struggle with (eg. writing an essay, teacher communication & advocating for needs, tips for notetaking and studying, preparing for tests and provincial exams, etc.) or small groups that create a safe place for students to meet and tackle coursework together (subject-specific).
