Thanksgiving Reflections from HCOS

This coming weekend, we take a moment to pause and reflect on the many things we have to be grateful for. As part of that, we would like to share a few thoughts that are connected to our school-wide focus the year:

  • Generosity – Acknowledging all that we’ve been given by God naturally encourages us to share with others. Scripture reminds us that giving is one of the purest reflections of God’s own heart. Generosity creates a beautiful cycle: gratitude leads to giving, and giving leads to even deeper gratitude. This Thanksgiving, may we give freely: of our time, our kindness, and our resources, just as God has so freely given to us

  • Joy –  Joy in the Bible is not simply happiness; it is a deep gladness rooted in God’s presence and promises. The Psalms overflow with joy in worship, and we are reminded to “rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4), even in difficult seasons. True joy doesn’t ignore hardship; it endures through it, because it’s grounded in something unshakable. This Thanksgiving, may we remember that joy is a gift, one that grows when we share life in gratitude, community, and faith.

  • Connection – Within scripture, we see that God designed us for connection, with Himself and with one another. Connection can be joyful and effortless, but it can also be deeply vulnerable. It is in that connection that we find wholeness in our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. In John 15:5, Jesus tells us that “the one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit.” We were created to thrive not in isolation, but in unity with God and with each other. You are never alone.

So, this Thanksgiving, let’s celebrate the generosity God has shown us by giving freely to others, choosing joy that lasts beyond circumstances, and treasuring the connections we share with family, friends, and our HCOS community. We wish you all a restful and joyful season of gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving!
