For Grade 10 HCOS student Norah O, learning is about more than completing coursework – it’s about exploring interests, asking thoughtful questions, and saying yes to new opportunities. That approach recently led Norah to an exciting and well-earned accomplishment: winning a $500 microgrant to support her academic growth.
This achievement reflects Norah’s initiative, creativity, and deep engagement in her learning. It also highlights how curiosity, when paired with effort, can open doors to unexpected possibilities.
- Huge Possibilities
Norah earned her microgrant through a MyBlueprint student challenge that invited participants to create a short informational video connected to a monthly theme. For her submission, she chose to explore agricultural veterinarians, a topic that genuinely sparked her interest and encouraged her to learn about a field she hadn’t previously considered.
The process allowed Norah to research, reflect, and communicate her ideas in a creative and engaging way: transforming a learning opportunity into a moment of achievement.
“There are opportunities everywhere for growth,” Norah shares, “and challenges like these can be very rewarding.”
This accomplishment reinforces an important lesson: stepping out of your comfort zone and taking on challenges can lead to rewarding outcomes.
- Initiative in Curiousity
She shared that having control over her schedule allowed her to approach the project thoughtfully and confidently without feeling rushed.
“Because of online school, I had more flexibility with my schoolwork, so I was able to dedicate time to making this video.” Norah shares.
This balance supported both her creativity and commitment to learning, demonstrating how flexible education can empower students to take initiative in opportunities beyond traditional assignments.
Encouraged by her success, Norah plans to continue participating in challenges and learning about a wide range of trades and career fields. Her microgrant win has shown her that growth opportunities are all around, especially for students who are curious, motivated, and willing to try.
The HCOS community is proud to celebrate Norah’s accomplishment and the initiative that made it possible. Her story is a wonderful reminder that meaningful achievements often begin with curiosity and the courage to take the first step!
