Some students dream about writing a book someday. Liberty B., a Grade 7 HCOS student, went ahead and did it. We’re thrilled to celebrate her as a published author!
- Once Upon a Time
Liberty’s love of stories started early. Her parents have read to her since she was young, and that habit grew into a passion for reading. Books like The Hunger Games have inspired her own writing, which she has now been doing for more than three years.
A lot of that time was spent quietly dreaming, drafting, and learning. When we asked about her journey, Liberty said her homeschool education “gave me the time and resources I needed to really do my best on my book.” Learning at home gave her room to follow her passion, and she made the most of it.
- Plot-Twists and Page-Turners
Every author hits a tough chapter. For Liberty, it was getting all of her ideas onto paper in the right order. Her solution was to slow down and take it one sentence at a time.
She also had support. Her teacher, Ms. Kristin, encouraged her to pursue her dream. Having someone cheering you on can make a big difference.
What makes Liberty proudest is how much people have enjoyed reading her work. One of her favourite moments was seeing people’s reactions when they learned she had actually published a book.
That’s something to be proud of at any age, and we couldn’t be prouder of her.
- Words of Wisdom
Liberty has this to say to other students with big goals:
“Try your best, don’t give up even when it gets really hard.”
She also offers a helpful reminder for anyone sharing their creative work: not everyone will love your story, and that’s okay. There will always be some people who enjoy it and some who don’t.
Liberty isn’t finished. She’s already thinking about her next book, a Bible adaptation, and she’s excited to publish more in the future.
Congratulations, Liberty! We’re cheering you on, and we can’t wait to see what you write next.
