The passion for cheerleading began at just 10 years old for Grade 12 student La’Mya J. when she watched her sister cheer and saw the energy, support, and excitement surrounding the sport.
“I thought it was such an amazing sport,” she shares. “Everyone is super supportive of each other…and I wanted to be a part of that.”
One year later, she stepped into the routines and never looked back. Now? She’s refined her skills and fully immersed herself in the cheer world, and it paid off in a huge way: a full scholarship to Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC)!
- All Eyes on the Mat
When she first started at age 11, La’Mya knew she had found her calling. What started as a curiosity blossomed into years of dedication and commitment.
After just one year into the sport, La’Mya signed with Total Spirit, beginning a sponsorship that has continued for the last six years of her cheer career. It was an early opportunity that showcased her talent and would open many doors for her future athletic career.
- Taking the Leap
Beyond her athletic career, La’Mya shared that going to TVCC has always been a dream of hers as a cheerleader. Now, that dream is becoming a reality!
La’Mya has been accepted into TVCC on a scholarship, an incredible opportunity that is a reflection of her years of perseverance, hard work, and determination.
“I cannot wait to continue my cheer journey while living my dream.”
As she prepares to move to a new place and step into a new environment, she carries with her a mindset rooted in growth and gratitude.
- Flexibility in Education
A key part of La’Mya’s journey has been the flexibility to fully invest in her passion.
“Home education has given me the time to fully immerse myself in cheer as well as coaching,” she explains. “Without homeschool, I don’t know where I would be today.”
That time allowed her to train, grow, and pursue opportunities that helped shape her path, ultimately leading her to this moment.
