Sticking the Landing: Meet Emily R.

The competition floor in Calgary featured more than one familiar face — including Grade 4 HCOS student Emily R, who competed at the same meet as fellow student Hannah H in an exciting weekend of gymnastics.

Balancing four separate events in a single competition takes preparation, focus, and consistency.

Competing in the 8.5 to 11-year-old age group, Emily delivered steady performances throughout the competition. Her placements included:

  • 7th on bars
  • 8th on floor
  • 8th on vault
  • 10th on beam
  • 10th all-around

When asked what she has learned from her time in gymnastics, Emily shared a simple but heartwarming sentiment:

“Always work hard and have fun!”

That enjoyment is something she carries into every competition. It’s a mindset that supports both improvement and enjoyment as she moves through her competitive year.

Home education has given Emily the flexibility to dedicate more time to practice and training. With additional time in her schedule, she can focus on developing her skills while continuing her academic learning.

“I am able to practice more and spend a lot of time doing what I love,” Emily shares.

Emily’s season is still underway, with four more competitions ahead. Each meet brings another opportunity to perform, refine her routines, and continue building experience in her age category.

We look forward to seeing how the rest of Emily’s competition season unfolds as she continues working hard and having fun along the way!
