At HCOS, every student’s journey is unique, and Jeremy F. is no exception. This talented HCOS Alumni has composed his own orchestral masterpiece, “Frozen Horizons.”
Jeremy is a proud member of NOVO (North Okanagan Vernon Orchestra), where he had the opportunity to showcase his composition to the players under the guidance of their talented conductor, Terry Pitt-Brooke. Through their hard work and dedication, the orchestra brought Jeremy’s piece to life, performing it for the public at Trinity United Church in Vernon.

Discovering a Passion for Music
Jeremy’s journey into music didn’t begin in childhood; in fact, “I actually wasn’t interested in music as a kid,” he revealed. It wasn’t until the age of 16 that he started taking guitar lessons. However, it didn’t take long for him to start composing his own guitar pieces. Writing his own pieces inspired him to want to add more instruments to his compositions, so he began playing the violin as well. He grew to join a community orchestra, which then led into him writing an entire orchestral piece.
As he grew older, a love for music composition emerged, turning a casual interest into a profound passion. Jeremy shares, “Writing music has become my passion, not just because I enjoy the endless possibilities associated with it, but also because music is so impactful on people’s lives. Whether it’s a film score that sets the mood just right for an unforgettable scene, or a song you heard as a child that stuck with you your whole life, music plays a huge part in each and every person’s life.”
A Schedule That Lets Creativity Thrive
“Home education gave me the time and freedom to practice my instruments. There were certainly times I just picked up the guitar and started writing something and got lost for hours. Which I was able to do because of a more flexible schedule than public school.” Jeremy shared.
Looking Ahead
Jeremy’s future in music is bright. Having been accepted into the University of Leeds, he plans to further his studies in orchestral composition and pursue a career in music.
