At HCOS, we cherish the unique and inspiring stories of our students and their families. Today, we are thrilled to highlight the incredible journey of a Family ensemble band, made up of siblings Sam, Seth, Abby, Lydia, and Hosanna, all HCOS students.
Music in an Old Church
The band began in a charming Anglican church, where the grand pipe organ and beautiful acoustics set the stage for their musical journey.
A Passion for Music
“We want to continue developing our skills and our sound,” the family shares. This enthusiasm drives their commitment to practicing and performing. Over the years, the siblings explored various instruments, eventually settling on their favourites about three years ago. With private lessons and unique opportunities in Northern BC, they honed their skills to a level where they could play as a cohesive group. Recently, they performed two arrangements, crafted by their mom, at a fundraising concert in Dawson Creek, raising over $3,500 for the food bank and soup kitchen.
Reflecting on Their Journey
For the Family ensemble band, the journey is about more than just music. It’s a story of collaboration, dedication, and the pursuit of shared goals. Their home education experience has enabled them time to explore music deeply while staying on top of their academic pursuits.
What’s Next for the Family Ensemble Band?
The family plans to continue growing their musical skills and performing together, and look forward to spring, where they have more opportunities to perform including a Spring Music Festival and a Spring Concert.
