HCOS’ home education changed my life for the better. I was given the freedom, the capacity, and the opportunity to become the best version of myself as a student. It prepared me in such a way to recognize that while we may have a schedule and an expectation for our present and future circumstances, God’s timing and power is what really allows us to walk in favour and shine in all of the things that we do. Coming to HCOS from another highschool in grade 11 made me feel a little bit nervous and lost for a short while, but then when I was met with the warmth and incredible kindness of the teachers and the rest of the staff, I felt right at home. 2020 was an odd year to graduate, and it was difficult to have to graduate online, but still, I was so honored with how the teachers honored us graduates that year. We really felt like one big family.
I was given the freedom, the capacity, and the opportunity to become the best version of myself as a student.
Specifically, I want to honor and thank my English and Psychology teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Daley, as well as my Christian Studies teacher, Mr. Laird. These teachers always had such uplifting things to say about me, and always made me feel incredibly noticed and appreciated, both as a person and a student. I told each of them about the fact that I was praying for the biggest scholarship at the Australian university I had gotten accepted into, a 50% off total tuition fees scholarship, and they gave me absolutely lovely reference letters for my application. After months of trial and error, trying to apply and study during COVID times and restrictions, and failing to win this big scholarship twice, I finally won it on my third try in December. I was ecstatic.
