Reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation

Drawn art of indigenous people in a flowing style

Dear HCOS community,

Next week, on Tuesday, September 30th, we will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a response to recommendations from the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. May this day be a reminder of the work that still needs to be done and of our shared hope for healing and unity.

We believe this is an excellent opportunity for ourselves and our students to practice the HCOS value of advocacy as seen on our learner profile. Together, we can challenge the attitudes, behaviours, and policies that perpetuate injustice, drawing on advocacy as a means to listen deeply, respond thoughtfully, and lead with empathy.

During this time of reflection on our history as a nation, we have assembled a list of resources to help support your family as we all work toward healing and reconciliation. On this day, we honour the stories and resilience of Indigenous peoples and recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of learning, growing, and advocating on the path of reconciliation.
